THEME OF THE MONTH

Since the beginning of our magazine in August 2020, we have dedicated each issue to a thematic idea. Down below, you can see what we've discussed and how they have evolved in a monthly tradition. We hope you enjoy!

Theme of the Month: Arts Articles

NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2021 THEME OF THE MONTH: HOME

Hi readers! Welcome to our last issue of 2021! This marks the end of our first full year as a magazine, and we could not be more appreciative of all of you that have supported us since we debuted in August last year. Now, onto the actual description of this section. Our theme of the month as you can read above is home, and when we’re discussing home, we’re talking about all that makes your home home. Whether it’s your family, your house itself, your bed and room, or maybe just a memento that reminds you of home, we all have something that we automatically think of when we think of home. Home is where you make, and whom you make it with. It can be with your immediate family, or your chosen family, your friends, as well as possibly being comforted by your pets. Whatever you think of when you think of home, connect to that closely during this holiday season. With the future still uncertain, it’s important to always have that place of solace to let you know that everything will be okay.

OCTOBER 2021 THEME OF THE MONTH: DECEPTION AND DISGRACE

Hello, readers! Happy Spooky Season! Welcome to our fifteenth issue! As this is our second Halloween issue, what best to make our theme of the month deal with the main point of Halloween (i.e. the dressing up part): deception and disguise! Not in a spiteful sense, but in terms of are we all truly being who we are in everything we do. While we are all about being authentic, in a time in which social media is where it seems the world lives, we run into the possibility of lying about this or lying about that for one reason or another. Maybe it’s because we’re trying to impress someone, or make us seem that we are “cooler” than we are, though whatever the reason it may be and whether we do it consciously or subconsciously, it is something that we all should try to get out of doing. There is no better you than you, so even if you have a cringey caption on an IG post or if all you post are hilarious memes on social media , that’s you, and you should keep doing you because you’re amazing, no matter what!

SEPTEMBER 2021 THEME OF THE MONTH: ALL THINGS LITERATURE!!!

Hello, readers!!! We are fresh off of our first anniversary as a magazine (yayyy), and we are debuting our first issue of our second year. As you see above and on our cover, this month’s theme is Literature. Prior starting the process of creating this issue, the staff binged watched the Twilight Saga, as it is finally back on Netflix lol, and at first, we wanted to dedicate a whole issue to the groundbreaking series (please note the sarcasm), we thought it would be fun to celebrate literature and all that literature encompasses (books, manga, poetry, plays, fairy tales, all of it). Literature has been a source of solace for many of our staff as well as for many people around the world. There are so many works of literature that have been written by women, and these stories detail our trials and tribulations as well as our celebratory moments in life as women, which is really awesome and important. Make sure to check out our podcast episode and our content that centers around literature!

AUGUST 2021 THEME OF THE MONTH: REFLECTION

Hello, readers!!! Welcome to our eleventh issue, and the last issue of our first year as a magazine! We’ve made it to a year, and we will be debuting a special issue on our anniversary, August 21. Considering this past year has been a long one full of lessons and thoughts, we thought it best to make our theme of the month connect to reflection with a focus on self-growth. Whether you realize it or not, we tend to reflect on almost every single aspect of our lives. Whether it be on our life as a whole, our day, how a class went, we reflect on a regular basis. Or at least, we should. Reflection is vital to us all because it helps to show us what we may have done right, done wrong, or just look to for advice on how we should continue living. We should all reflect in order to stay sane in a world that seems so toxic and hateful to see what went wrong in the past, and what we need to do to fix ongoing issues that affect everyone in the world or just a few people in our inner circles. Make sure to take the time to listen to our podcast episode as the staff reflects on this past year, and how we all reflect on a day to day basis; it’s a good one!

JULY 2021 THEME OF THE MONTH: ENVIRONMENTAL FRIENDLINESS

Hello, readers!!! Welcome to our tenth issue, and the last issue before our anniversary issue! As you can see above, our Theme of the Month for July 2021 is Environmental Friendliness. Considering we are in the midst of summer, we thought it would be a good idea to discuss the importance of being conscious of the environment, especially during a time in which the weather can be fairly unpredictable. In our podcast episode, we discuss how we each make strides to reduce our carbon footprint as well as talk about the reasons why everyone needs to step up and protect the earth from the continuous strife of climate change. Seeing as we are all on this earth for an extended amount of time, we are the people who have to make sure the earth is protected and in the best position for those who come after us. Whether you make a small change in your daily routine or a big change, anything helps in our fight against climate change. Take the time to listen to our podcast on an enlightening conversation.

JUNE 2021 THEME OF THE MONTH: MONEY MANAGEMENT

Hi, readers!!! Welcome back to another issue in the wonderful year of 2021. Our theme for June is Money Management!!! Now, usually, one may run away from the topic of the money management because it can be extremely scary and tedious to have to sit and think about making sure you are either saving your money, investing it, or just trying to keep all of your finances organized, but the greatest thing about this is the fact that there is no perfect way to be in charge of your money. As long as you do what works for you, and have had success with that method, do that! Also, start sowing the seeds to hopefully begin generational wealth, if your family doesn’t already have that building in terms of your finances, because if you could start saving up now, who knows how much money that can end up being in the future?

MAY 2021 THEME OF THE MONTH: EDUCATION

Hi, readers!!! We are back at it again with another issue, and this month, we are highlighting education as our theme of the month. No, we’re not just talking about traditional education of being in a classroom from nine in the morning till four in the afternoon, but the value we place on education and the stigmas surrounding less traditional forms of it. There is no right way to go about getting an education, especially when you finish high school. Some go to college, some take a gap year. Some people go into the military while others go straight into the workforce. Look at all of the possibilities? What we hope that you think about while reading this issue and while listening to our podcast episode is that the experiences that we gain and the knowledge we earn from our education, whether it be concrete facts or simply different perspectives, help to create a meaningful journey through life. So, take a moment to reflect on how your education has helped to shape you into the person you are today, or how it is currently shaping the you of tomorrow. We hope you enjoy!

APRIL 2021 THEME OF THE MONTH: BEAUTY

Hi readers!!! Happy April!!! So, our theme for the month this time around is beauty. No, we’re not talking about typical beauty but being able to acknowledge that beauty is not the superficial definition that may usually pop into one’s head. In our podcast episode, three of our staff members discuss the dangers of beauty standards and how we all need to get to a point to acknowledge that true beauty is the fact that there aren’t any standards, no matter what you may have been taught. Celebrating the beauty that is the world and the beauty of relationships, as well as the beauty of loving one’s self. It is extremely rewarding to think of beauty in that way rather than in the superficial manner because then we can get out of constantly comparing ourselves to others. Acknowledge the beauty in you, whether it’s on the outside or on the inside. You being you is what’s beautiful.

MARCH 2021 THEME OF THE MONTH: AMBITION

Hi readers!!! Happy Women’s History Month!!! As we come into the third month of 2021, and our seventh issue, we want to highlight our theme of the month, which is ambition. The thing about ambition is that it is all about having drive or passion for something that you do or are going to do in the future. For instance, having the ambition to go for a really competitive job or internship. If you have ambition, you are going to attack the task with confidence and intention, while also believing in yourself and not allowing naysayers to prevent you from doing the task at hand. Considering it is Women’s History Month, ambition is a huge part of any feminist movement. It is all about being upfront and honest about the injustices in the world, and having the guts to fight for what’s right. While it may seem kind of scary at first, being ambitious means that you are still going to try no matter what. So, as the rest of the month continues, think about something that you’ve been wanting to do, and try doing it with as much confidence as you can muster, because you can do it, sis!!!

FEBRUARY 2021 THEME OF THE MONTH: LOVE

Hello, readers! Welcome to our second issue of 2021! So, considering it is February, we wanted to take the moment to celebrate the love in our lives. Not just the romantic kind, but the familial, friendly and self-love. With Valentine’s Day in the middle of February, we tend to forget that romantic love is not the only love you can celebrate on Valentine’s Day. It’s a time to celebrate all of the love around you, whether it be the love you have for your family, your friends, or even yourself after coming to a place of self-acceptance. As we are an intersectional feminist magazine, we also turn up for increasingly popular Galentine’s Day on February 13th to take the time and celebrate our girls and our friendship within that. Take a moment to reflect on what love means to you.

DECEMBER 2020 / JANUARY 2021 THEME OF THE MONTH: GENEROSITY

Hello, readers! We have made it to our fifth issue!!! Happy Holidays to you and your families! For this issue, we wanted to discuss generosity as during the holidays, we all tend to be very giving and have the want to go the extra-mile to help others. Whether this is an annual tradition or something that you just starting doing, it is really important to give back to your community because as this pandemic has shown; many people are suffering from the lack of food and other living necessities, hence why it is important to make sure to give if you are able to. Down below, all of our staff members have written what the importance of generosity means to them in a small excerpt. No podcast episode this time around, but make sure to read the excerpts down below!

NOVEMBER 2020 THEME OF THE MONTH: TRADITIONS

Hello readers! We have made it to our fourth issue!!! Thank you again for taking the time to read each issue of ours, as we have worked extremely hard to bring you yet another issue full of articles and poetry. Now, to our theme of the month: traditions. When we came up with this thematic idea for the month, our first thought was the fact that we have made it to the holiday season, a time period in which many traditions tend to come about, as well as reflecting on annual celebrations that either we alone do, or celebrations with family and friends. Especially in this time in which many of our traditions may not be able to go on considering Covid-19, but to reminisce about these celebrations are a nice way to take our mind off it. Some staff members did another podcast episode to discuss our theme of the month and Elizabeth wrote an excerpt about her view of traditions, so make sure to give it a listen on our Spotify account and read her excerpt down below!!! Happy Thanksgiving!

OCTOBER 2020 THEME OF THE MONTH: OVERCOMING STRESS

Hello readers! We have made it to our third issue!!! Thank you so much again for reading our magazine and interacting with our content for the past three months. For October, our theme of the month is overcoming stress because as young women in an age where procrastination is extremely prevalent and time management seems to be non-existent, it is important to have ways to be able relieve stress and relax a bit. So this month, a few staff members got together to discuss ways to relieve stress in a podcast-style conversation,  and one of our editors wrote an article detailing a creative way to relieve stress.

SEPTEMBER 2020 THEME OF THE MONTH: COMING OF AGE/MATURITY

Wow, we’ve made it to our second issue! First, we just want to thank our readers for coming back and reading our magazine! The entire staff have all started school since we debuted on August 21st, but have worked hard to make an amazing second issue for you, so we really hope you enjoy it. So, as you can see, our theme for September is coming of age and maturity, and as the majority of our staff transitions from high school to college and from adolescence to adulthood, we thought it would be a good idea to celebrate the next stage of our lives, and many of our readers’ as well. Coming of age is celebrated culturally in various ways across the world, or is simply described as a milestone (reaching an age considered “mature”). .. Both of these concepts go hand in hand, and much of our content for this issue highlights them. Similarly to what we did with our first issue’s theme of the month, each member of the staff has made an excerpt detailing what coming of age and maturity means to her. Enjoy!

AUGUST 2020 THEME OF THE MONTH

Diversity. A noun and an adjective. The word describes the world in its entirety. When you look at nature, the environment, the animals, the people, diversity is what you see. It is the foundation of what makes our world beautiful. Considering this is our theme for the month for our first issue, we are describing what we hope to promote with this magazine and what we want the world to be able to celebrate. Being women in an age in which we "are lucky to be alive right now" as the Schuyler Sisters say in their song of the same name in Hamilton: An American Musical, we have to be able to fight for our seat at the table with grace and excellence. Diversity describes us in a nutshell; acknowledging our gender as well as all of our different ethnic backgrounds. We represent the minorities in the world and show that we are worth it and more. Take a moment to enjoy the view that is inclusive and colorful and beautiful. Diversity is us and everyone and everything in between.
